WHAT I LEARNED FROM DR DENSTEDT: What I Learned From Dr John Denstedt

By: Sam S. Chang, MD, MBA, Vanderbilt-Ingram Cancer Center, Nashville, Tennessee | Posted on: 06 Apr 2023

Many so-called leaders can be loud and loquacious while overpromising and underdelivering. From day 1 of meeting, interacting, and working with John, he is the polar opposite. One learns so much about individuals when together you travel, share meals, deliver presentations, and lead meetings. I personally could not have had a better leader, role model, and friend who through unprecedented times led the AUA to truly higher heights. In his honor, I will keep this tribute of true admiration and gratitude brief and leave you a list of his attributes and an appropriate quotation.

Fairness…Honesty…Humility…Kindness…Patience…Grace…Determination…Strength…Humor…Unflappability…a Dancer.

“…speak softly, and carry a big stick.”

—Teddy Roosevelt
