SPECIALTY SOCIETIES: American Society for Men’s Health Symposium AUA2023: Establishing a Modern Men’s Health Center

By: Jason Jameson, MD, FACS, President, American Society for Men’s Health, Phoenix VA Health Care System, Arizona | Posted on: 06 Apr 2023

The American Society for Men’s Health (ASMH) Symposium at the AUA Annual Meeting in Chicago will be held on Sunday, April 30, from 8-11:30 am. Please come join us!

The focus of the symposium is “Establishing a Modern Men’s Health Center: From Operations to Contemporary Clinical Issues.”

Men’s health clinics have become more common over the past 2 decades. As with the ever-changing landscape of medicine, so too has the varied approach to creating a men’s health clinic. The ASMH symposium at the AUA will provide current strategies and lessons learned from past experiences by experts in men’s health in setting up a men’s health center. In addition, there will be a focus on current clinical issues that are commonly treated in men.

The sessions will be a comprehensive review of various factors to consider when setting up a men’s health center. Ken Mitchell, PA, will address the use of advanced practice providers, scribes, and telehealth, and Josh Langston, MD, will moderate a panel discussion on the utilization of advanced practice providers in bridging the gap between primary care and urology, with a focus on patient assessments and procedures. With the increased use in telehealth during the pandemic, access to care regarding men’s health issues will be discussed, and the future balance between in-person and telehealth options is a challenge that all health care providers will be addressing in their practices. In addition, there will be an entire session on billing and coding for services provided within the men’s health center led by Mark Painter, CEO of PRS Urology Service Corporation.

The clinical issues that will be addressed in the symposium include: (1) Testosterone: New Forms, Options, and Alternatives, by Marty Miner, MD; (2) Emerging Trends in BPH (benign prostatic hyperplasia) Therapy panel moderated by Mehran Movassaghi, MD; (3) New Frontiers in Sexual Medicine/ED (erectile dysfunction), by Ranjith Ramasamy, MD; and (4) Operationalizing Sexual Medicine in Treatments, by Ashley Tapscott, MD, and Alex Tatem, MD.

After the educational sessions, the ASMH will have their annual business meeting for all members.

Men’s health is a very diverse topic, and the program at the AUA reflects the various important aspects of providing care to men in 2023. We look forward to seeing you in Chicago, and please follow us on Twitter: @AmSocMensHealth!
